The Sicame Group is supporting the Energy Transition and access to solar electricity for villages in Africa with AWASE.

Senegal should achieve the objective of 20% renewable energy at the end of 2017 through its hydroelectric and solar production. It does not remain less than the solar power installed in Africa still remains anecdotal. Photovoltaic renewable energy currently lies far behind coal, water-power and the millions of generator sets that continue to light up the continent. These generators could be combined or even substituted by photovoltaic installations.

To this end, the Sicame Group has signed a partnership contract with the Senegalese company AWASE, to sell solar power supply kits for individual use by populations living in rural areas without access to electricity.

These kits can be installed on sites isolated from the electricity grid without training and without tools, in less than 10 minutes, and they are very easy to use. These kits can power several low consumption lights, recharge a telephone, power a fan or even a television. During the day a solar panel recharges a lithium battery that returns the electricity during the night. Three power levels are offered: 140 Wh, 280 Wh and 400 Wh, to meet inhabitants’ different needs.

So this is how sales of solar kits began on the African continent. Electrification there is a major challenge with more than 600 million inhabitants who don’t have access to electricity. Now, we know that a reliable power supply is a pre-requisite for developing access to healthcare and education, and to combat poverty.

In addition, the Sicame Group is proud to take part, alongside Awase, in electrifying the African continent and to make its contribution to the Energy Transition targets.

AWASE is a global player in the energy issue, located mainly in West Africa.
