Bangladesh: land of projects for Transmission
The ‘Patuakhali (Payra)-Gopalganj 400 kV’ project is one of the first in the world to use a quadruple 400 kV bundle withy an ACCC® conductor. It was won by GS Korea for delivery in 2018. After months of negotiation, Dervaux was selected to supply the accessories with shock absorbing struts supplied by SALVI.
Bangladesh, with 163 million inhabitants and a land area of 147,570 km2, is one of the most densely-populated countries in the world with special topography due to the rivers flowing into the ocean as a delta.
The demand for electrical power continues to increase in Bangladesh and the country must strengthen its internal electricity transmission grids, but also the interconnections at its borders to promote exchanges, particularly with its Indian neighbour.
Given these constraints, the high temperature conductor (HTLS) ACCC® developed by CTC Global was selected for the majority of construction or ‘reconductoring’ projects by the PGCB (Power Grid Company of Bangladesh).
After 18 months’ negotiation to get its expertise and long experience in developing HTLS accessories recognised, DERVAUX was finally recognised as a qualified supplier to be CTC’s partner working with PGCB. Regional support from SICAME India was a key factor in this success.
Other lines are currently being allocated for 2018, as well as a river-crossing project: there are numerous short-term opportunities.
DERVAUX and the Transmission SBU are on the point of becoming significant players in this booming emerging market.
